THE BEGINNING<\/h2>

The foundation walls and the large vaulted cellar, which is still in use, date back to the 12th century. The current building was erected on top of it in the early 16th century. Since then, the house has presumably also been an inn.<\/p>\n<\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

THE FIRST DOCUMENTARY MENTION<\/h2>

The estate was granted shield justice by the court of the Vorder\u00f6sterreichische Herrschaft Rheinfelden – to which Eichsel belonged at the time. This was the authorization to show with a tavern sign that food and drink may be served in the house.<\/p>\n<\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

FAMILY-OWNED<\/h2>

After the inn was extended at the beginning of the 19th century to include an adjoining room and a ballroom above, Ludwig Kessler, until then landlord of the “zum Wilden Mann” inn in Nieder-Eichsel, took over the then vacant Maien in Ober-Eichsel in July 1894. Since then, the Maien has been family-owned.<\/p>\n<\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

THE INN DURING THE WAR<\/h2>

On January 16, 1916, Alfred Kessler takes over the inn from his father Ludwig. After the last male member of the family was killed in the war in 1941, the inn had to be closed temporarily, as the surviving widow and her daughters, whose husbands had also been killed, were unable to run the inn and the associated farm on their own. However, the inn is reopened in 1947 by daughter Josefine H\u00f6ferlin, n\u00e9e Kessler, and her husband Emil.<\/p>\n<\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

THE EXTENSION OF THE INN<\/h2>

In the 1960s, farming was abandoned and the old banqueting hall and the granary above were converted into living quarters. Shortly afterwards, the inn is extended to include a covered terrace and a bowling alley.
\nMaien is handed over to daughter Astrid B\u00f6rner, n\u00e9e H\u00f6ferlin, and her husband Reinhard in 1971.<\/p>\n<\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

THE COUNTRY INN-HOTEL MAIEN<\/h2>

In 1993, work began on the extension of the hotel wing with 18 rooms and two large banquet and seminar rooms seating approx. 150 people. With the completion of the hotel extension in April 1994, the name is changed from “Gasthaus zum Maien” to “Landgasthaus-Hotel Maien”.
\nAs a result, the hotel was extended in 1997 by converting a residential area into 3 hotel rooms.
\nIn 2006, the terrace is converted into a winter garden and the “old” adjoining room is converted into the new reception and lobby. As part of these changes, a new garden restaurant with seating for around 70 people and a satellite kitchen is also being built.<\/p>\n<\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

HANDOVER TO THE 5TH GENERATION<\/h2>

On January 1, 2012, the son Oliver B\u00f6rner and his wife Sandra take over the Landgasthaus-Hotel Maien. The hotel will then be extended by 4 additional rooms in 2019 and now has 19 double and 6 single rooms. In December 2022, three publicly accessible 22 KW charging points for electric vehicles will be installed in the hotel’s own parking lot.<\/p>\n<\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
